The man who plays David Archer in the long-running Radio 4 soap – takes the role of a politician who wins the Tory leadership contest but now must unite his warring MPs for the final stages of the negotiations to leave the EU. Total fantasy, of course.

There’s no getting away from it, especially not at an arts festival. This is by no means the only Brexit themed play at this year’s Fringe, but the cast is stand out.
THE OBSERVER, 2 JULY
The writers of the Edinburgh-bound play, Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky, have perhaps found the place of greatest safety by setting their entire comic drama in the future. Opening in 2020, it chronicles the impossibility of finalising an EU deal as the British government fractures.
